 VOLUME 41 ISSUE 4
A LITERACY COUNCIL OF JACKSON COUNTY PUBLICATION
OCTOBER 2010

NOTES FROM THE CHAIR

Dear Volunteers and Friends,

Happy Halloween, a thoughtful Veteran's Day, Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.  Oh, and don't forget Election Day.

The Council has few students currently being served, but they are grateful for our service.  Dan Devine trained his student well enough to pass the Oregon Driver's License exam, another feather in Dan's hat.

The Literacy Council is still without funding, but the Council has little overhead to worry about, so we are still able to function.  We are so grateful for the office space provided by Rogue Federal Credit Union.  Without them the Council might cease to exist.

Have a great time wrapping up 2010.

Chairman

The "three-finger" rule can help both you and your student select appropriate material. When starting a new book, students should raise one finger each time they encounter a word they cannot read. If they've raised three fingers while reading the first page or two (depending on how many words are on each page) then the book may be too difficult.
